The success story of Charlin

This is Charlin! Charlin is since a few years one of the tailors of her village. A loan provided by Grama Vasantham, the Micro Credit Program of AID INDIA has made this possible. She is one of the 12 group members in a Self Help Group. Together they are responsible for repaying the loan. Before the loan was given, Charlin provided no income to her family. The income of Charlin's husband, who is a fisherman, was not sufficient for savings. This made the future very insecure because of the decrease in fish populations after the Tsunami. The education of her child was not first priority because her attention was focused on getting enough income.

Now she earns 50 rupees a day which enables the family to save, and her child can go to school. She gained a lot of self esteem and she feels much more secure about her future now!
