Other projects

Besides our main projects we also established some smaller projects to benefit the disadvantaged in our region. We also have some projects to gain attention for our organization and to establish relationships with other organizations.
The campaign of human support
Through this project people from AID INDIA and organizations in Europe try to create a chain of mutual aid in order to solve the issue of basic human needs. These activities are voluntary in all aspects. All the projects are based on the principles of solidarity and reciprocity. They are entirely organized by a chain of local volunteers who are cooperating with
humanists from Europe. In this way people learn to approach their problems actively, without passively waiting for external aid. This gives much better prospects for the future; increasing human dignity and trust in ones own abilities. Everyone actively organizing a new project receives support and aid, and in return helps others start similar projects elsewhere.
Free alphabetization courses
These alphabetization courses are organized for the children of those families that don’t have the possibility to send them to school. These children spend their days on the streets. Some children are orphans and they live with their grandparents, who don’t have the financial means to send them to school. The courses are organized in a room given to us by one of the community members. They are conducted by volunteers who are high school and university students and teachers. Thanks to these courses these children can get at least the minimal education until their situation improves and they are able to go to school.
Cooperation with schools
We give support to regular schools in different ways: organizing special courses, seminars for the students, service trainings for the teachers, distributing school materials (books, pens, pencils, uniforms etc.) and finding suitable schools and courses for out-going students.
Vocational courses
For poor girls and people with disabilities we give training in tailoring and embroidery work, so that they can stand on their own legs by running independent shops after the completion of the course.
Relief work for tsunami affected people
We put our efforts in reorganizing the socio-economic structure of the families in the Tsunami affected area. We do this by promoting women groups and distance child adoption programs in the area.
Health care unit
A main dispensary is functioning in Satankulam and a medical nurse is in charge of the unit. The people from villages can come and get medical care here. Also they get reference if their problem is acute and major.
Since we have no permanent doctor here, we cannot give treatment to major diseases. The service is given free of charge for the inhabitants of the villages where we are working. The purpose of this dispensary is to give first aid to the members of the community, to treat simple diseases, to monitor the situation in the village and to ensure quick transportation to the hospital in case of an emergency. We also try to educate the local community on methods of disease prevention, especially AIDS by conducting courses and using medical literature.
Humanist centers
At this moment we have 21 humanist centers. In these centers there is room for all types of important activities, which in the given neighborhood or village are lacking. These activities are started on the basis of voluntary work and by active participation and cooperation of local people. Together we try to find solutions to the main problems affecting the people in the area. During the daytime the humanist center is used as a place for organizational meetings, discussions, seminars, etc. and the humanist center is used in the evening to educate children.
Child development center
These centers are established to benefit the development of children. During the day time they learn basic language skills, drawing and some mathematical knowledge. They are provided with food and basic learning materials. We have centers in Valan Nagar, Chettivilai and Virudhunagar.
Summer courses for children
The courses are conducted in the summer time for children who would like to have more improved education in Mathematics, English and Science. It’s free of charge. Teachers working in various schools and other volunteers involve in this activity.
