Tuesday 26 of January it was Republic Day. On this day the Indian people commemorate the day on which the Constitution of India came into force on 26 January, 1950. In the whole country there’re celebrations and parades. It is a national holiday. Also at the Ave Maria School and Orphanage there was a commemoration. All together we sang some songs like the national and state anthem. Also their were some speeches and stories about the meaning of Republic Day and why the Indian people commemorates and celebrate this day. The pictures below gives you an impression of the commemoration.

Also this year there was a big Children’s Day Celebration in the orphanages and schools of AID India. In June of this year AID India opened a new school and orphanage. So this was the first year of the Children’s Day Celebration on both locations. As well in the new orphanage Home for Children in Sathankulam as in the orphanage Island of Hope children had a great celebration. On the third day of the celebration all children of both orphanages met each other in the orphanage Island of Hope. This was a great event and all children were very happy. The children practiced songs and drama to show on Children’s Day to all children, members and other people who where invited. At the end some children got a price for best song or best drama and many people where honored for there charity and help to the work of AID India. School & Orphanage Project – Volunteers needed!!!

AID INDIA is constructing a building to start a school and orphanage in AVE MARIA PARK in Pannamparai Vilakku, Satankulam. The place is in the cross road, an important place. The school will serve the children coming from the families which have been organized by AID INDIA under micro credit programme. Other children who have no opportunity to study in a good institution also will be admitted. The school will impart qualitative education through english medium which is dream for the poor people. Also there will be a home for the girls. It will serve the orphans and other children coming from a deserted and poor situation. The school will function from June 09. Interested people can support the project. Volunteers are needed for working in the school. The building work can be seen in the following images.

Need Based Training to the SHG Members

23 members of AID INDIA’s Self Help Groups attended a NEED BASED seminar in ISLAND OF HOPE, Virudhunagar. It was conducted by Central Board for Workers Education, Reginonal Directorate, Madurai, and AID INDIA for 2 days (21.01.2009 and 22.01.2009). The aim of the programme was to give basic aspects to the participants. It was very successful. Meeting was arranged by Mr. Shenbaga Rajan of the Directorate and Mrs. Josephine and Miss Thangam of ISLAND OF HOPE made arrangements for the meeting.
