International Women’s Day 2012

The Self Help Groups promoted by AID INDIA in Virudhunagar celebrated International Women’s Day in ISLAND OF HOPE ORPHANAGE on 17.03.2012. Women of the groups participated very actively. They shared their ideas and also they made suggestions in the meeting for the future. Success stories were shared with proofs of their products. Mrs. Shanthi Mariappan, the City President, presided over the function. She distributed prizes to the deserving groups and individuals for their laudable work. Miss Karine from UK participated the function and she also shared her points and she encouraged the women. She also told that she would take the love of the women to her country. Miss Thangam, the Director of the orphanage IOH and the Public Relation Officer, Mrs. Josephine, organized the meeting. The women members gave dances and speech. Children were happy to participate and they gave dances. Some women gave role plays to give awareness in the society. Mr. S. Peter Raj, the General Secretary of AID INDIA, addressed the meeting and gave felicitations. In 2009 AID India started with a great project, the construction of a school. The purpose of this project is to make it possible for children to attend education. A lot of children in India, also in Sattankulam area, don’t have the oppertunity to attend education. Because of lack of money or because the have to work at home. Through awareness programs AID India tells the community that education is the best way to lift a society out of poverty. Besides it gives the children joy and the learn to play and communicate with other children. The aim of the Ave Maria School is to make it possible for all children to enjoy and attend good education. According to the income of a family the decide whether or not they have to pay for the education or which amount. The’re is no standard and that’s what makes it possible for more and more children to attend education.

In the beginning of November again AID India celebrated Children’s Day. A special day for children. The whole day the children are preforming drama, dans and sang. The had been practising for a long time. So a special and exciting day. Also the children do get some nice presents.

In the complex of Ave Maria School and Ave Maria Home there is regular morning prayer every day before the school begins. The link will show you some pictures of the morning prayer.These pictures were taken after the completion of leveling the ground in front of the home and school with dirt and gravel from outside. Now the place is suitable for meetings, prayer and games. There are flowers around the ground. The children are keeping the place beautiful. The following is the link to see the photos.

The movie shows a little of the surrounding of the Ave Maria Nursery and Primary School. Also it shows some lessons which the children have to attend. All the lessons are in English so when you put your ears on the speakers of your computer maybe you can hear and learn something.

Independence Day 2010

Like all of India, the Ave Maria School commemorated on August 15 the fact that independence from the British empire was gained in 1947. But the celebration of India’s birth as a sovereign nation was not limited to just the hoisting of the national flag. Parades and dance performances by the school children, speeches on the struggle for freedom and beautiful decorations made it an unforgettable day. The school children had practised for weeks on their marching orders and dance steps and put up a great show for a varied crowd. Besides teachers, children, their parents and several international guests volunteering for AID India, the Independence ceremony was also attended by Mr. Meenakshi Sundaram, the highest representative of the Satankulam police force.
